C6 Command of visual communication techniques
The reason why I have marked this as '1' meaning little knowledge or none is because I do not really know what it means in reference to Design and Technology. During my degree I am sure I have applied various visual communication methods but are they relevant to this subject? Maybe it is really self explanatory and I am over thinking this section, regardless of that it is obvious that this will be an area in which I will need to look further into detail if I am going to progress.

INITIAL understanding of the term 'COMMAND OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES'...
If I were to take a guess I would say that this particular term refers to displaying your ideas or design through various visual mediums. These methods could perhaps include animations, rough or detailed sketches, diagrams, or models. I would say that the purpose of demonstrating visual communication techniques in Design and Technology is so that it can help the designers progression and development within the design process it could be to obtain market research, create a better understanding of how the product will be put together and fabricated and also to make any adjustments and spot any floors within the design. All of these points can help the designs progress and become better in appearance and function. On the other hand visual communication could even be in reference to a online or paper portfolio which illustrates all of your progress within the design process. Whether I am correct is another story, I guess it is something I will find out later when I come back to this part of the audit.

What I have learnt and what I understand now
I now understand that this translates to anything that is not a way of verbal communicating something across. For example showing your ideas through other formats, or expressing yourself in other ways to demonstrate ideas, thought processes, and problems. I now know that these examples can include things like, presentations, video work, mind maps, sketches, online portfolios, paper portfolios, and some of these examples we have in fact already completed within the course so far.
I have also learnt that it is having the ability to be able to display you work in a attractive, neat, accurate and clearer way so that it does not need to much written content to explain the content. I personally feel I work better this way as I am much more of a visual learner meaning I can present my work much clearer and accurately.
Examples of visual communication that I have learnt so far Posters, Billboards, websites, packaging design, campaigns, videos, leaflets, dvd covers, advertisements and even working drawings are all forms of visual communication.
Throughout this course within my work I am sure that I will be including some of these examples mentioned. I know we are expected to produce portfolios both paper based and electronic so hopefully this will give me a chance to investigate and develop my skills with these techniques.
As the course as progressed I have realised that visual communication techniques are so important and are a useful factor within the production of a product and also to demonstrate your initial concepts within the process. Bhav told us today that even working drawings are examples of visual communication techniques and if they are completed accurately then they will enable someone to product your work that you have drawn.
Below are some examples of me investigating and exploring these techniques within my work:

I am now at the point where I have been able to investigate and explore these various techniques of visual communication throughout the models set during this course. It has made me realise a great deal more about the principle and importance of these methods, the most crucial aspect I feel that is vital when you engage with such techniques is to be able to create a clear message for viewers to understand what you are trying trying to convey. If they do not understand this then your method needs to change and improve. Just because you know what your trying to convey doesn't mean everyone will be so being able to get something across without any verbal communication is a skill which I have found has developed as I have progress in the course.
Bhav told us that the quicker something is to understand, the stronger the visual communication technique is and this is a fundamental part of design and technology.
During this journey I have found certain methods easier than others and although I need to develop the weaker techniques the methods in which I am stronger in I shall continue to practice and apply within my learning and teaching. For instance, I find modelling a lot more easier than sketching, and I prefer to create a online portfolio rather than a paper based one.

Analysis of new gained knowledge and the next step
When I first approached this section of the audit I marked it as a '1' meaning no knowledge if any at all. In retrospect I feel as if this was a fair enough mark but I didn't realise that I did in fact know a fair amount about what this section of the audit entailed anyway through my previous experiences. During this stage I felt that as a learner I was quite successful and there were other points where I was not as successful as initially envisaged.
I have found myself quite naturally going from being used to working on paper to transferring these skills online. Creating a online portfolio did take a while to get used to but I have actually found it easier at times to work online to illustrate my work. I think that this has been a really successful part of my learning journey, I am aware that it is important to be adaptable within this digital age and seeing as most things seem to be completed by using a computer or searching the internet now, it is important to keep up with the times.
Furthermore, I feel that as I have progressed I also was able to recognise the principles of why you apply these techniques within your work not only within a Design and Technology context but also in terms of the industry and so forth. Being able to identify such principles enables you as a learner I feel to grasp the purpose of the content and not only do they support with your development as a learner but it also facilitates when you need to teach the content in the future.
Generally speaking I feel as if I have been fairly successful in my learning during this time but I am aware that I need to work on my sketching techniques and also be more neater with my paper based portfolio work. I think I need to try and have more patience and put aside more time to practice these methods because I would like to be able to be skilled in the traditional skills as well as using digital tools to execute my visual communication.
My next step will be to work on this more either next year or within this semester. Trying to show my sketches to see if I have developed in any way shape or form.
